Community Initiatives Enriching San Bernardino

San Bernardino is witnessing a surge of community-driven initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s vibrancy and fostering connections among residents. These programs not only beautify neighborhoods but also strengthen the social fabric of our community.

Love Your Block Initiative

The ‘Love Your Block’ program empowers residents to take an active role in revitalizing their neighborhoods. Through mini-grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, community groups have undertaken projects such as public art murals, vacant lot cleanups, and the establishment of community gardens. This initiative has led to significant improvements in local areas, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among residents.

Intergenerational Programs

Starting in Spring 2025, the city introduced intergenerational programs at six community centers. These initiatives, including ‘Paint and Pastries,’ ‘Eats, Treats, and Healthy Drinks,’ and ‘Smart Play Social,’ aim to bridge the gap between different age groups. By engaging in shared activities like art, cooking, and technology, participants build meaningful relationships and promote lifelong learning.

Back 2 Nature Program

Funded by the California Outdoor Equity Grant Program, the ‘Back 2 Nature’ program offers urban youth opportunities to experience and enjoy the outdoors. Based at the Rudy C. Hernandez Community Center, the program includes community park cleanups, conservation education, and trips to natural areas. These activities aim to instill a love for nature and promote environmental stewardship among young residents.

Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC)

Since 1965, CAPSBC has been dedicated to serving San Bernardino County by supporting, advocating for, and empowering residents to achieve self-reliance and economic stability. Their programs include a food bank, family development services, and energy education, all aimed at improving the quality of life for community members.

These initiatives reflect the collective effort to create a more connected and vibrant San Bernardino. By participating in and supporting these programs, residents contribute to the ongoing revitalization and enrichment of our community.
